Reading the Signals

Trend research starts with looking beyond what is visually popular. I observe changes in culture, behaviour and values, then connect individual signals to understand the larger movement underneath them. This process helps me build a direction that is grounded in the present but useful for imagining the future.

Step by step

01

Collect

I gather signals from social behaviour, fashion, media, technology, reports, brand activity and everyday observations. At this stage I stay open and collect without forcing an immediate conclusion.

02

Connect

I organise the material into an evidence wall, compare recurring themes and look for tensions between what people say they want and how they actually behave.

03

Translate

I turn the strongest pattern into a clear trend direction, visual language and future scenario that can guide concepts, campaigns and brand experiences.

What I keep in mind

01

Collect before you conclude. A signal becomes useful when it appears in more than one place or context.

02

Save the reason behind every reference, not just the image itself.

03

Look for tensions: what people say they want often differs from what their behaviour reveals.
